James Gunn Leaves Marvel For DC

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 director, James Gunn, Was Released Earlier This Year From Marvel Studios

Director of the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 was released earlier this year for comments he made years ago.  Despite apologies and stating he is a different person, the Marvel Studios refused to rehire him for the project.

James Gunn directs Suicide Squad 2

Normally DC Has Issues With Directors

Except for Man of Steel, Batman V Superman Dawn of Justice and Wonder Woman, every movie released and planned for the DCEU has had some change or issue with their director.  On the opposite end of the spectrum, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has only had a couple of movies to date that have had to go through a change in director.  Could this be a pattern arising with them getting rid of James Gunn?  I for one hope not

Has Marvel Studios Begun to Fall

It’s an unfortunately thought that one day the Marvel Studios will cease to be the excellent, hit making studio it has become.  With the end of a major milestone Avengers 4 coming now is not the time for them to start scaring their fans.  Phase 4, which begins at the end of Avengers 4 will bring with it a new direction for Marvel Studios.  Having the director from one of their most successful franchises would have been an excellent asset to keep fans and actors happy.

The actors from Guardians of the Galaxy vol 3 have been very vocal about their desire to keep James Gunn attached to the project.  Most vocal has been Dave Bautista.  He has even made statements as if he is ready to leave the project if Gunn doesn’t return.

Marvel Studios has decided to keep the script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 that Gunn worked on.  Personally, I don’t understand what principle requires you to fire him but keep his work.  There must not be enough time to rewrite the script.  Hopefully this will be considered a compromise to keep Bautista and other actors happy.  I don’t know if they could make a good Guardians of the Galaxy movie without Drax.

Suicide Squad tried to be Guardians of the Galaxy Now They Can

Both movies stared a bunch of criminals and killers that teamed up to save the day.  They both had expense soundtracks filled with classic songs.  Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy were filled with a cast of lesser known comic book characters.  Only Guardians of the Galaxy had James Gunn, and Guardians of the Galaxy was the better acclaimed movie.  Now the Suicide Squad sequel has the same secret receipt that the Guardian of the Galaxy had.  This should make Suicide Squad 2 a much better movie than the first now that they have what it takes to recreate Guardians of the Galaxy’s success.

The DCEU Will Be A Little Brighter With Gunn’s Touch

The DCEU has tried to get away from the dark tone that it began with in Man of Steal and BVS.  Bringing James Gunn to possibly direct Suicide Squad 2 should help them achieve this goal.  Guardians of the Galaxy was an upbeat movie about a much of criminals saving the galaxy.  I’m sure he will be able to change the tone of the movie for the better.

James Gunn is not confirmed as the director yet, but he is definitely attached to the project.  He will most likely direct the movie.  I for one hope there is enough time to have him write the script also.  James Gunn has proven himself to be a comic book fan, or at least that of Guardians of the Galaxy.  I think it would be great if he could direct a Suicide Squad Movie that he wrote.

Make sure to come back as we will make sure to bring you more news on Suicide Squad 2.
